2023 Conference

To celebrate the continued success of the MWHN, a second one-day conference was organised on Friday 7 July 2023. It was hosted by University College Dublin, exclusively for MWHN members and conference-funded guests. The event comprised two keynotes and four panels, totaling fourteen speakers. Papers covered topics ranging from widows and orphans to veterans and pensions and from nursing and hospital provisions to charities. They also crossed geographical and chronological boundaries, engaging with Britain and Ireland, Zimbabwe, Austria, Habsburg Transylvania, and Australia, and from the 17c right into the latter 20c. An edited collection, comprising several of the papers from this conference, plus others contributed by Network members will be produced after this event.
