Overview
To celebrate the continued success of the MWHN, a second one-day conference was organised on Friday 7 July 2023. It was hosted by University College Dublin, exclusively for MWHN members and conference-funded guests. The event comprised two keynotes and four panels, totaling fourteen speakers. Papers covered topics ranging from widows and orphans to veterans and pensions and from nursing and hospital provisions to charities. They also crossed geographical and chronological boundaries, engaging with Britain and Ireland, Zimbabwe, Austria, Habsburg Transylvania, and Australia, and from the 17c right into the latter 20c. Book
A selection of the conference’s papers and keynotes were invited to contribute to an edited volume, edited by Dr Paul Huddie and three Network members. This resulted in Military Welfare History since the Eighteenth Century: War and Welfare.
