
As well as actively coming together for conferences around the world and producing a wide range of academic publications, the Members and Affiliates of the MWHN are also active promoting both their own research (MWH-related and other) and the Network via various digital platforms, including YouTube channels and online podcasts. Below here are a list of some of those outputs.
Military Historians Are People Too

Since its inception back in 2021, the MHAPT podcast has played host to over a dozen members of the MWHN (both before and after they joined the Network), who have spoken about their lives, careers, interests and general research interests and expertise. In 2023, the podcast also featured the MWHN Coordinator, Dr Paul Huddie, who spoke specifically about the concept of ‘military welfare history’, the Network, and its activities, outputs and future prospects.

Military Welfare History Network conference 2023
During that event Network member, Dr Anotida Chikumbu, interviewed MWHN Coordinator, Dr Paul Huddie. During their talk Dr Huddie discussed the field of military welfare history and the origins, current activities and future prospects of the Network. View it here.

On Wednesday 25 March 2026, Dr Paul Huddie presented his paper ‘Military Welfare History: what is it and how can we use it?’ to the War Studies Research Group at the University of Buenos Aires. Back in 2017, as part of the Southern Irish Loyalism in Context conference, Dr Paul Huddie presented a paper entitle ‘Disputed legacies: British military charities, the new Irish state and the courts, 1923-29’. On 9 April 2023 Dr Paul Huddie appeared on the RTÉ History Show to speak about the legacy of British military charities in Ireland after the creation of the Irish Free State in 1922. He discussed two court cases that not only determined the fates of the Seaton Needlework Association and the the estate of the Royal Hibernian Military School, but also the legal framework and social context for ‘British’ military charities in Ireland right up to today.
